STEWARD SAYS MERGER MAKES IT NATION'S LARGEST FOR-PROFIT OPERATOR

Steward Health Care, already a major player in Massachusetts health care, broadened its national footprint Friday with a transaction that the company says will make it the largest for-profit operator in the United States.

Steward and IASIS Healthcare LLC have entered into an agreement to merge operations, with 18 IASIS hospitals merging under Steward's name. The hospitals are located in Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Louisiana, Texas and Utah.
