BAKER TAPS BRAKES ON NEW CELL PHONE RESTRICTIONS ON DRIVERS

By Andy Metzger

STATE HOUSE NEWS SERVICE

STATE HOUSE, BOSTON, FEB. 16, 2017....While acknowledging that he is not up to speed on the laws restricting cell phone use by drivers, Gov. Charlie Baker indicated Thursday he favors allowing people to continue chatting on hand-held phones while behind the wheel.

"I don't want to get out of the business of making it possible for people to talk to other people when they're driving. Because I think the texting thing is a big problem. I'm not sure I believe that the talking thing is," Baker said during his "Ask the Governor" segment on WGBH Thursday.
