VINEYARD WIND LEASING NEW BEDFORD TERMINAL IN 2021, 2022

Two weeks before the election, Gov. Charlie Baker traveled to New Bedford Monday to announce an offshore wind lease that was signed in late September.

Vineyard Wind on Sept. 30 signed a lease with the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center to use the New Bedford Marine Commerce Terminal as the staging area for its 800-megawatt offshore wind farm 14 miles south of Martha's Vineyard. The 18-month lease period begins Dec. 1, 2020 and Vineyard Wind has agreed to pay $6 million annually. The 29-acre terminal was built by the state to serve the wind industry and larger cargo vessels.
