INSTITUTE SEES STATE TAX REVENUE GROWTH ACCELERATING IN FISCAL 2017

As the Baker administration continues to mull midyear spending cuts to keep outlays and revenues in sync in the current budget, administration officials and lawmakers are set to hear about possible revenue totals in the coming budget year, fiscal 2017, which begins July 1, 2016. Tax collections five months into fiscal 2016 are running 4.4 percent ahead of fiscal 2015, compared to the state's official 4.8 percent estimate. Spending appears to be running ahead of budgeted amounts in some areas and non-tax revenue are falling shy of estimates.
