During Thursday's session, Sen. Nick Collins said canceling the Boston special election, and looking ahead to a "fair" and "safe" regular election in the fall, is necessary because of the COVID-19 pandemic and "costs associated with performing an election of this kind in short order." Collins has been mentioned in media reports as a possible candidate in the fall mayoral race. Asked about that as he walked out of the Senate suite Thursday afternoon, the South Boston Democrat did not bat down a possible candidacy.
